Technology & Tokenization: Switzerland and Global

Tokenization and DLT technology in Switzerland and worldwide: tokenized securities and real-world assets, digital-asset settlement, stablecoins, token standards and institutional infrastructure.

    Understanding the topic

Tokenization means representing rights — such as shares, bonds, fund units or claims on real-world assets — as tokens on a distributed ledger. Swiss law has recognised ledger-based securities since the 2021 DLT amendments, which makes Switzerland a frequent testing ground for tokenized issuance and settlement.

This section covers the technology side: settlement of digital assets, stablecoins and payment tokens, smart contracts, token standards and the infrastructure institutions use to issue, hold and transfer tokenized assets.
